The news on the lips of every Cameroonian beginning from the evening of Friday January 4, 2019 is that of the partial cabinet reshuffle that has seen about 12 changes though with some two persons raised to ministers of state in the same portfolio. In the streets of Bamenda, people are talking about the switch of the PMship to the Southwest and the total surprise that has come with it as all names that people had thought will feature in Biya’s new government were simply not mentioned in all the appointments.

Some interesting changes are those of the Prime Minister Head of government and Minister of Communication to which Chief Dr. Dion Ngute Joseph and Rene Emmanuel Sadi have been respectively appointed to head. People have also reacted more to the swap in ministries that has sent Issa Tchiroma Bakary to the Ministry of Employment and Vocational Training. They wondered if Rene Emmanuel Sadi is ready to tell lies at some points as his predecessor in order to protect government’s interest even if he gets embarrassed with the truth as his predecessor.

Talking to Senator Barrister Kemende Henry G., he said “what Cameroon needs is a change of the fundamental laws of the land. The laws governing us in this country are not good at all. The laws are applied as if they were meant for some whims and caprices” he said. “I do not expect anything new from the appointments. So long as the helm of government remains the same in this country there will be no real change. Besides it is only putting old wine in new calabashes. We might have a slight modification of the music but that remains the same” he furthered.

Wondering if he had expected that another North westerner would be appointed PM he said “It does not matter who is appointed PM, what matters is the impact it will create but appointing a PM in the current dispensation does not impact our country in any way. It will only help the individual. It is an opportunity for those close to him to clamor for government projects under him and for his family members who have never had jobs to have one or to have good positions in government. It is simply the same recycling process. Believe you me even if I were the one appointed PM today nothing will change. In the present dispensation I will be shown the way out if I tried to be firm so appointment of PM is just a mere distribution of hope” he ended.

The Scale News Africa also spoke with North West CPDM Senator Regina Mundi who on her part refused to dissect the new appointee in but maintained that the Head of state His Excellency Paul Biya knows what is best for the country and thus has definitely done just that. She added, “his predecessor Philemon Yang has been there for 9 years plus which is about the longest term served in the Star Building so far and so I really think we have no reasons to complain”.

“Dr. Dion Ngute takes over office at a time when things are very delicate and being someone from the South West which we all know how badly affected the place is I think we all have to bury the hatchet and support him in his work to bring about good governance. I am personally happy that the Head of state chose another Anglophone at a critical time like this to be at the helm of government. It is a time for all Anglophones to rally behind Dion Ngute to bring about peace” she ended.
